Newcastle Institute: The Big & Small of Creative Innovation
Hunter Room, Newcastle City Hall. //
The Big & Small of Creative Innovation.
Government across all levels are beginning to recognise that creative industries are the unsung heroes of economic growth, export, productivity, innovation and competitiveness. Creative industries, including advertising, visual arts, design, music, dance, theatre, film & TV, publishing, fashion electronic gaming and architecture, contribute to the growth of vibrant communities and sustainable economic diversification for cities and towns across the country.
Facilitated by Marcus Westbury, Patron of the Newcastle Institute and Founder of Renew Newcastle & Renew Australia, The Big & Small of Creative Innovation will ponder how government helps and hinders growth of creative innovation and address what needs to change in order for creative individuals and group enterprises to flourish - particularly those with little capital but lots of energy and enthusiasm.Discover what's been tested, the outcomes and what's on the table with panellists who have experience in developing creative innovation in a government capacity and also as individuals making a difference within their own communities.

The Newcastle Institute was established in Newcastle in 2004 as an independent, not-for-profit, incorporated association, open to the general public. The Institute is a forum for new ideas, and a venue to encourage people to engage and participate in discussion of public interest issues, and the development of public policy. The Institute conducts monthly gathering that include invited presentations on a variety of issues, selected with particular interest in issues that are not currently adequately discussed in the mainstream media or public policy debate. Presenters may be local identities, or visiting figures of national significance.
